Presenter Kata Martinková originally set out on a path toward speech therapy, but ultimately found her place in the media. From a young age, she was drawn to performing in front of an audience, yet a decisive role was played by chance and her encounter with broadcasting legend Mária Mačáková. It was she who introduced her to working with a microphone and opened the door to the world of media. “Once you get a taste of the microphone, it completely captivates you,” she admits.
While still studying, she began working as an announcer and later gained valuable experience at Rádio Twist. Today, she focuses primarily on interviews – both in radio and television. She considers thorough preparation, professionalism, and a human approach to be the keys to success. In her career, she values most the interviews with personalities who are no longer with us, such as Anton Srholec, Kornel Földvári, Eduard Kukan, or Marián Geišberg. She now sees the media as an exceptionally responsible profession. In a time of extremism, hoaxes, and the questioning of authority, she believes it is crucial to provide balanced information and encourage the public toward open-mindedness, empathy, and respect. A new chapter in her career is the television talk show Among Us with Kata Martinková on STVR. In it, she explores a range of social topics together with multiple guests, creating space for diverse perspectives and the confrontation of opinions. For her, Bratislava is not only a place of work but also a matter of the heart. She enjoys spending time in its streets, cultural institutions, and in the nature of the Little Carpathians. To younger generations, she would offer a simple message – never give up and pursue your dreams with courage and an open heart.
