O jeho fotbalové kariéře bylo napsáno mnoho. O té profesionální hráčské, i o manažerské u reprezentace. Stejně tak o působení v Dolních Chabrech, kde žije a je předsedou tamního fotbalového klubu. Hraje hokej a golf, fotbal mu zraněné koleno naplno nedovoluje. Ale když odhlédneme od sportu? Oním „Štístkem“ je i v podnikání.
Podnikáte mimo jiné v hotelnictví, a to už docela dlouho...
To začalo v roce 2001, když jsem hrál v Anglii. Měl jsem kamaráda, který dělal do hotelů a několik jich měl. A já samozřejmě věděl, že fotbalová kariéra jednou skončí, tak už jsem přemýšlel, co dál. Říkal jsem mu, že kdyby měl nějakou zajímavou nabídku, šel bych do toho třeba napůl. O něco později se ozval, že má možnost koupit v Mariánských Lázních hotel a jestli do toho s ním tedy chci napůl jít. Takže takhle jsem začal.
A evidentně se vám to zalíbilo...
Je to tak, bylo příjemné mít něco svého. A potom přišla možnost koupit hned vedle toho hotelu druhý, ten jsem už koupil sám. A nakonec se k tomu před asi pěti lety přibalil ještě Tančící dům v Praze, který máme ve čtveřici. A zase náhoda – kolem toho Tančáku jsme jezdili a pořád tam visela cedule na možnost pronájmu prostor. Nejdřív jsme tam chtěli udělat Airbnb. Pronajali jsme si patro, ale vzápětí přišla nabídka na pronájem dalšího, takže jsme původní představu opustili a rovnou jsme udělali hotel. O něco později jsme přidali další dvě patra a nakonec jsme si pronajali i restauraci a dole máme recepci s kavárnou. Měli jsme předjednané ještě další dvě patra, ale teď se to stoplo, protože situace s koronavirem je opravdu velký zásah do tohoto byznysu.
Jak jsem se díval, tak jste se kromě toho pustil i na pole počítačových her...
Jasně, e-sport. Počítačové, playstationové nebo konzolové hry. Od doby, kdy se tyhle hry objevily, tak mě hrozně baví. A vlastně i předtím, už jako kluk jsem hrál stolový Stiga hokej, byl jsem vždycky hodně hravý, ať doma nebo na hřišti. Když začaly videohry, hodně mě to chytlo. Měl jsem je s sebou při srazech nároďáku i na soustředěních se Slavií a později s Liverpoolem.
A jak vás napadlo do tohoto odvětví aktivně vstoupit?
To už je pár let. O mně se ví, že si rád hraju, a tak jsem dostal nabídku od týmu Entropic, jestli se k němu nechci připojit. Snaží se sestavit hráče, kteří by v jeho barvách hráli všechny možné světové soutěže a turnaje, ať už to jsou sportovní hry, střílečky, taktické věci a další. Stal jsem se jejich ambasadorem, pak i investorem a snažím se tenhle sport propagovat.
Jdou počítačové hry nazývat sportem?
Uznávám, je to sporné, když vlastně jenom sedíte u počítače. Ale pokud opravdu chcete hrát na světové úrovni, musíte tomu dávat třeba pět nebo šest hodin denně a celou dobu se pekelně soustředit, mít dokonalou koncentraci a reflexy. Někdy si to zkuste a uvidíte, jak potom budete vyčerpaný. Ti kluci proto často chodí do posilovny, aby byli fyzicky i psychicky fit. Ostatně jak jsem říkal, i já si ty hry bral jen na soustředění a srazy. Nikdy bych nehrál před zápasem.
A nebojíte se, že děti a teenageři už vůbec nebudou skutečně sportovat nebo blbnout venku, ale budou jenom sedět u počítačů?
Víte co – když jsme my byli mladí, tak bylo za trest sedět doma. Měli jsme pouliční skupiny, přišel jste ze školy, hodil tašku do rohu a letěl ven. Teď je to tak, že je škola, pak nějaký kroužek nebo koníček, pak domů, večeře a počítač. Berte to i tak, že už je to jiná generace s jinými možnostmi. To už je generace počítačů, chytrých mobilů a podobně. Je to pro ně normální a přirozené. A navíc − ne všechny děti jsou sportovně nebo pohybově nadané. To nejde říct všem „Jdi ven běhat.“ To je stejné, jakoby mně v dětství někdo říkal, ať jdu na piano nebo na housle. V tom jsem absolutní antitalent, stejně tak na kreslení – totální nemehlo. A mimochodem – nejlepší věk pro tyhle hry je tak od 20 do 30, pak už jste na to starý. Už nemáte ty reflexy, soustředění, rychlé reakce.
Takže investorem v Entropicu jste se stal z fanouškovství?
Částečně. Ale také jsem přesvědčený, že tohle odvětví bude pořád růst a má i s rozvíjením virtuální reality velkou budoucnost. Už teď se hrají velké světové turnaje, které mají třeba na youtube ohromnou sledovanost, mají i své sponzory a prize money. Například v Asii je to obrovský hit. Světové finále jedné střílečky mělo větší sledovanost než Super Bowl. Takže už to začalo být hodně zajímavé pro firmy a reklamní agentury, spousta mladých se třeba zajímá, jakou značku oblečení nosí světoví hráči a týmy. Točí se v tom miliardy, je to velký byznys. Jednak si koupíte tu hru, například fotbalovou FIFA. A pak EA Sports, tedy firma, která tyhle hry vydává, prodává i speciální balíčky, ve kterých máte třeba pár lepších hráčů. No a teď vyšla úplně nová FIFA 2021 a všechno, co jste měl v předchozí FIFA 2020, můžete zahodit a začínáte znovu. Mimochodem, už se do toho zapojují i skutečné kluby. Třeba Paris SG, ale i jiné, má svůj e-sportovní tým. Hráči hrají v jeho barvách a tím, že je to světový, hranicemi neomezený fenomén, přitáhne to k tomu reálnému klubu fanoušky. A ti si koupí například dres nebo čepici a v součtu to udělá velké peníze. A třeba celosvětový víkendový turnaj FIFA má fakt obrovskou sledovanost.
Když jste narazil na FIFA a světové mistrovství, tak od virtuální reality skočíme zase do té skutečné. Zaznamenal jsem, že určitou roli máte i v souvislosti s fotbalovým MS 2022 v Kataru. A to ve spojení s firmou Tarespa, která vyrábí luxusní a věrné modely světových stadionů...
S klukama z Tarespy se znám několik let. Kontaktovali mě, protože měli zájem se propojit s Liverpoolem. Bavili jsme se i o tom, jak ty jejich modely dostat pořádně do hry, protože to je pořád docela nová věc. A světový šampionát v Kataru je skvělá příležitost. Všechny stadiony, které dělají, jsou krásný dárek a vzpomínka. Řeknu to takhle – byl jsem na třech evropských šampionátech, světový mi bohužel kvůli zranění utekl. A vždycky jsem se těšil nejen na zápasy, ale i na to, že si přivezu nějaký suvenýr, který mi bude šampionát připomínat. A třeba na Euru 2000 jsem byl po zápase s Dánskem, kdy jsem dal oba naše góly, vyhlášen hráčem zápasu. Dostal jsem nějaký upomínkový předmět, což je bezva, ale přece jen byl takový neadresný, nicneříkající. A teď si představte, že po takovémto zápase dostanete v křišťálu vyvedený právě stadion, na kterém jste hrál, a na něm bude i datum a nápis Česko–Dánsko 2:0. Na to se i po letech podíváte a okamžitě vám naskočí atmosféra, ty góly a spousta dalších detailů. Navíc to opravdu krásně vypadá.
Takže jim budete pomáhat tím, že jste známý a spojíte s nimi svou tvář?
Dá se to tak říct. Hrál jsem nějakých 80 zápasů za reprezentaci, byl jsem na několika šampionátech, hrál jsem za Liverpool, mám Ligu mistrů, znám se s mnoha lidmi. Ale to hlavní, proč s nimi spolupracuju, je, že rád podporuju věci, které jsou nejen krásné, ale dávají i smysl a jsou dobré pro fotbal. Takže i proto se mi myšlenka kluků z Tarespy, že udělají modely katarských stadionů, ohromně líbí. Stejně jako představa, že je to oficiální dárek katarského šampionátu, který by dostávali jak hráči a další lidé z týmů, tak i představitelé FIFA a pořádajícího Kataru.

Vladimír Šmicer (narodil se 24. května 1973 v Děčíně) je bývalý reprezentační fotbalový záložník.
#S fotbalem začal v šesti letech v klubu TJ Verneřice, od roku 1985 hrál dvě sezony v Kovostroji Děčín a ve svých 14 letech přestoupil do Slavie Praha. V ní pak začal v roce 1992 i svou dospělou profesionální kariéru.
V roce 1996 přestoupil do francouzského RC Lens, po třech letech si ho k sobě vytáhl anglický Liverpool FC, ve kterém strávil šest sezon. S tímto týmem se v ročníku 2004/2005 stal vítězem Ligy mistrů.
Po Liverpoolu působil ještě ve francouzském Girondins Bordeaux a v roce 2007 se vrátil do Slavie. S ní získal ještě dva ligové tituly, ale po vleklých problémech s kolenem v listopadu 2009 profesionální hráčskou kariéru ukončil. Poté ještě pracoval do roku 2013 na postu manažera české reprezentace.
S manželkou Pavlínou (dcerou fotbalového internacionála Ladislava Vízka) žije v Dolních Chabrech. Mají dvě děti – Natálii a Jiřího.

He retired from professional football in 2009 at the age of 36. He has worked in Czechia, France and England, is a multiple league champion, winner of the UEFA Cup and the Champions League, and has won silver and bronze at the European Championships with the national team. His nickname was "Luck" and to this day he says that his life is a boy's dream come true. Vladimír Šmicer.
There’s been written a lot about his football career, about him as a professional player, as well as a manager's of the national team. And then more about him working in Dolní Chabry, where he lives and is the chairman of the local football club. He plays hockey and golf, he can’t play much football for his injured knee. But apart from sports? His "Luck" is also in business.
You have been doing business in the hotel industry, among other things, and for quite a long time...
Yes, it all started in 2001 when I was playing in England. I had a friend who worked in hotels and had a few of them. And of course, I knew that my football career would end one day, so I was already thinking about what to do next. I told him that if he had an interesting offer, I would go halves with him. A little later, he said that he had an opportunity to buy a hotel in Mariánské Lázně, so if I wanted to go halves I could. So that's how I started.
And obviously you liked it...
That's right, it was nice to have something of your own. And then came the opportunity to buy another one right next to this hotel, which I bought all by myself. And finally, about five years ago, I got the Dancing House in Prague, which I own with 3 other people. And that was another coincidence – we were driving around the Dancing House really often, and this sign offering space rental wasn’t coming off. First, we wanted to do Airbnb there. We rented one floor, but then came an offer to rent another floor, so we dropped the original idea and made a hotel instead. Later on, we added two more floors and finally we rented the restaurant downstairs, where we have the reception with a cafe. We’d had two more floors pre-negotiated, but that has been put on hold now, as the coronavirus situation has been of real disruption in this business.
I hear you’ve also started playing computer games...
Sure, e-sports. Computer, PlayStation and console games. I've been enjoying these games ever since they appeared. And in fact, even before that, as a kid, I used to play table top Stiga hockey. I’ve always been very playful, both at home and on the pitch. When video games started, it appealed to me a lot. I brought them with me to the national team meetings and to training camps with Slavia and later with Liverpool.
And how did you think of actively entering the industry?
That was a few years ago. I know I like to play, and I got an offer from the Entropic team asking me if I wanted join them. They are trying to put together players who would play all possible world competitions and tournaments in their colours, be it sports games, shooting, tactical stuff and more. So I became their ambassador, then an investor, and I am trying to promote this sport now.
Can you call computer gaming a sport?
I admit, it may be disputable, as you actually just sit at a computer. But if you really want to play at the world level, you have to give it five or six hours a day and concentrate like hell all the time, have perfect concentration and reflexes. Give it a try sometimes, and you’ll see how exhausted you are. That's why these boys often go to the gym to be physically and mentally fit. After all, as I said, I also took the games only to training camps and meetings. I would never play before a match.
And aren't you afraid that kids and teenagers won't play sports or play outside anymore, but will just sit at computers?
You know what - when we were young, it was a punishment to sit at home. We had street crews, you came home from school, threw your bag in the corner and dashed out. Now you go to school, then some to hobby lesson, then home, you eat dinner and go to the computer. I see it as a different generation with different options. This is a generation of computers, smartphones and the like. It is normal and natural for them. Plus, not all children are athletic or physically gifted. You can't tell everyone, "Go out and run." It's as if someone told me as a child to go and play the piano or the violin. I am an absolute anti-talent at this, as well as drawing - totally not my thing. And by the way - the best age for these games is from 20 to 30, then you're old enough. You no longer have nervous reflexes, you have good concentration, and you have no abrupt reactions.
So you became an investor in Entropic simply because you were their fan?
Partly. But I am also convinced that this industry will continue to grow and has a great future with the development of virtual reality. Great world tournaments are already being played, which, for example, have a huge audience on YouTube, they also have their sponsors and prize money. In Asia, for example, it's a huge hit. The world finals of one shooting game had more attendance than the Super Bowl. So it has already become very interesting for companies and advertising agencies, a lot of young people are interested in what brand the players and teams will be wearing. Billions are spinning in it, it's a big business. First, you buy the game, such as FIFA football. And then EA Sports, the company that publishes these games, also sells special packages in which you have, for example, a few better players. What is more, now a brand new FIFA 2021 has been released and you can throw out everything you had in the previous FIFA 2020 and start all over. By the way, real clubs are already involved. For example, Paris SG, but also others, has its own e-sports team. Players play in their colours, and because it's a global phenomenon with no boundaries, it draws fans to the real club. And they buy a jersey or a hat, for example, and all in all it's a huge money earner. And for instance, the worldwide weekend tournament FIFA has a really huge audience.
Since you mention FIFA and the World Cup, let’s switch from virtual reality to the real world. I have noticed that you also have a role to play in connection with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. And in conjunction with the company Tarespa, which produces luxury and true copy models of world stadiums...
I have known the boys from Tarespa for several years. They contacted me because they were interested in getting in touch with with Liverpool. We also talked about how to get their models into the game, because it's still quite a new thing. And the World Championships in Qatar is a great opportunity. All the stadiums they make are a beautiful gift and a memory. Let me put it this way - I was at three European championships, unfortunately I missed the world one because of an injury. And I've always looked forward not only to the matches, but also to bringing a souvenir that will remind me of the championship. And, for example, at Euro 2000, after the match with Denmark, when I scored both of our goals, I was announced a Player of the Match. I got a souvenir, which is great, but it was so vague, meaningless. And now imagine that after such a match, you will get the stadium you played in made of crystal, and the date and the inscription saying Czech Republic-Denmark 2:0. You will look at it even years later and the atmosphere, the scores and a lot of other details will immediately pop in your mind. Plus, it looks really beautiful.
So will you help them with your high profile and endorse them with your face?
You could say that. I played some 80 matches for the national team, I was at several championships, I played for Liverpool, I have the Champions League title; I know a lot of people. But the main reason I work with them is that I like to support things that are not only beautiful, but also make sense and are good for football. So that's why I really like the idea of the Tarespa guys making models of Qatari stadiums. As well as the idea that it is the official gift of the Qatari Championship, which would be given to both players and other people from the teams, as well as representatives of FIFA and the organizing Qatar.

Vladimír Šmicer (born on 24th May, 1973 in Děčín) is a former national football team half back.
He started playing football at the age of six in the TJ Verneřice club, from 1985 he played for two seasons at Kovostroj Děčín and he moved to Slavia Prague at the age of 14. He started his adult professional career in it in 1992.
In 1996 he transferred to the French RC Lens, after three years he was drawn over by the English Liverpool FC, where he spent six seasons. With this team, he won the Champions League in 2004/2005.
#After Liverpool, he still worked in the French Girondins Bordeaux and in 2007 he returned to Slavia. He won two more league titles with them, but ended his professional playing career in November 2009 after protracted knee problems. After that, he worked until 2013 as a manager of the Czech national team.
He lives in Dolní Chabry with his wife Pavlína (daughter of the internationally famous football player Ladislav Vízek). They have two children - Natália and Jiří.
