Gas from Azerbaijan could contribute to Europe’s, and thus Slovakia’s, energy security. That is why the Minister of Economy, Denisa Saková, discussed the possibilities of expanding gas extraction and its subsequent export from this region to Europe.
The talks with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Trade, Mikayil Jabbarov, also included economic cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies, with the delegation focusing specifically on the Digital Village project, which Slovak companies are already collaborating on. “I appreciate the responsible approach and support from Azerbaijani officials in seeking a solution for gas supplies to Europe through Ukraine starting in January 2025,” the minister said after the meeting. The discussions also covered ongoing preparations for the Business Forum in Baku, which will involve Slovak entrepreneurs. Strengthening Azerbaijan’s economic or diplomatic representation in Bratislava was another topic of the talks.
