How to stay fit during the summer

Summer is a great time to improve your fitness, enjoy outdoor activities, and eat healthy. If you want to stay fit during the hot months, here are some tips from professional fitness coach Vítězslav Vít.

With these tips, you’ll be ready for an active and healthy summer. Remember, the key to success is consistency and perseverance. Enjoy the summer months to the fullest and stay fit! 

Utilize outdoor activities 
Summer offers many opportunities for outdoor exercise. Running, cycling, swimming, or hiking are great ways to stay active. Sunlight also provides essential vitamin D, which supports bone health boosts the immune system. Studies show that regular time spent outdoors improves mood and reduces stress.

Hydration is key 
There’s an increased risk of dehydration in the summer, so it’s important to drink plenty of water. It is recommended to drink at least two to three liters per day, and even more during intense exercise. You can add slices of lemon or mint leaves to your water for a refreshing taste. Avoid sugary drinks and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration. Don’t forget to consume enough salt to help retain water in your body. 

Balanced and healthy diet 
Hot weather calls for lighter meals, but the body still needs enough protein and healthy fats. Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, but don’t forget quality sources of protein like meat, fish, eggs, and cheese. Nuts, seeds, and avocados are great sources of healthy fats. Watermelon, strawberries, cucumbers, and tomatoes are ideal choices as they contain a lot of water and help with hydration. 

Try different exercises 
Summer is a perfect time to experiment with different types of exercise. You can try outdoor yoga, paddleboarding, or inline skating. Varying the activities you do not only prevents boredom but also ensures you strengthen different muscle groups and improve overall fitness. 

Pay attention to recovery 
Rest is just as important as exercise. In the summer, ensure you get enough sleep, and don’t forget about recovery days. Relaxing activities like swimming in a pool or meditating on the beach can benefit both the body and mind. Good quality of sleep supports muscle recovery and overall body regeneration. 

Sun protection 
When engaging in outdoor activities, don’t forget sun protection. Use sunscreen with a high SPF, wear a cap or hat, and sunglasses. Try to exercise early in the morning or in the evening when the sun is less intense. This will prevent sunstroke and reduce the risk of skin damage. 

Motivation and goals 
Set summer goals to keep you motivated. This could be running a certain distance, learning a new sports skill, or simply improving your overall fitness. Goals will help you maintain motivation and focus on a healthy lifestyle.
