Energy security in Central Europe was the topic of an extraordinary meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček and Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková.

The main discussion focused on stabilizing oil supplies in connection with technical damage to the Druzhba pipeline on Ukrainian territory and on the possibility of using alternative routes. Representatives of the companies Mero, Čepro, Transpetrol, and Slovnaft also took part in the meeting. Czechia offered Slovakia operational assistance that would enable the so-called reverse flow of oil. “In the event of an acute need, the Czech side is capable, in emergency mode, of sending tens of thousands of tonnes of oil per month, which would amount to hundreds of thousands of tonnes annually,” said Karel Havlíček. Denisa Saková welcomed his statement. “After certain investments that must be carried out on both sides, we would be able within two to three years to transport two to three million tonnes of oil annually,” she noted.
