The Prague 1 running team, which regularly participates at the races organized under the RunCzech brand, has successfully accomplished the 20th year of Prague half marathon

A fitting number of Prague 1 representatives – 20 runners – ran the half marathon for Victoria Velvet’s foundation Velvet Smile. “I have always been very close to running, I used to ran regularly even as a little girl. That is why it seems very natural that we have merged running with the activity of our foundation. I would like to thank Mayor of Prague 1 Mr. Oldřich Lomecký for choosing our foundation as a charity to support this year. There is never enough philanthropy among us and my goal is to spread the activities of our foundation Velvet Smile as much as possible,” says the singer Victoria Velvet.

Great organization

Among the Prague 1 runners were lovers of healthy physical movement both from the local citizens and the municipality representatives. „Thanks to a great cooperation with the President of the Organizing Committee Mr. Carlo Capalbo we were able to convince the public that the runs are organized for their own benefit. Everyone who feels capable can participate and choose a track fitting his or her own requirements,“ explained Oldřich Lomecký (TOP09), Mayor of Prague 1.

Once again the organizers did a great job with this year’s half marathon organisation including the traffic measures. These are always organized flexibly so that they affect the traffic and circulation of local citizens as little as possible. Also, citizens can always find all the necessary information about every run enough in advance on the website www.runczech.cz as well as on Prague 1 website www.praha1.cz. The same information is also always distributed to the letterboxes of local residents.

Have a run with the councillor

One of the traditional participants in the Prague 1 team is councillor for culture and sport Mr. Filip Kračman, who ran the half marathon track in 1 hour and 31 minutes. Thanks to Mr. Kračman’s initiative Prague 1 has also recently created a new project called „Vyběhni s radním“ („Have a run with the councillor“), where local residents have the chance to go practise running with Mr. Kračman and have an informal discussion about topics of interest. „Running is a natural part of my life, and even though the world’s running aces do not have to worry about my results, I am still extremely keen on regular practising,“ says councillor Kračman.

For runners with higher ambitions RunCzech organizes a yearlong running leage – a series of runs of various lenghts. Participants receive points for every accomplished run. The number of points depends on the final time and difficulty of each run. The final ranking is based on runners who have accomplished at least 3 RunCzech running league runs, and is divided by gender, occupation and age. The best proof of quality of the Prague International Marathon projects comes from International Association of Athletics Federations, which has awarded all the runs with Gold label, the highest award for street runs.
