At the beginning of January, the Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Richard Raši, welcomed Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš to the ceremonial premises of Bratislava Castle. The official meeting, held in the Porcelain Salon, built on intensified interparliamentary cooperation and confirmed both countries’ ambition to return their mutual relations to an above-standard level.
The main pillar of the talks was the restart of Slovak–Czech relations and the search for concrete areas of cooperation that would benefit citizens in both countries. “The restart of Czechoslovak and Slovak–Czech relations was the central topic of our discussion with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš here at Bratislava Castle. We agreed that the shared goal of our parliaments and governments must be to seek solutions that genuinely make life easier for citizens in both our republics,” Richard Raši stated. Both sides declared during the meeting that the closeness of the two nations is rooted in history and that the current political leadership has a duty to develop this tradition in a modern and pragmatic way. According to Speaker Richard Raši, the visit of the Prime Minister Andrej Babiš to Slovakia is a clear signal of a new era in bilateral cooperation. “We began this process at the parliamentary level, and today the government has officially joined it. I firmly believe that all our citizens will benefit from this renewed dialogue and that Slovak–Czech relations are once again at the level they have historically deserved,” the Speaker of the Slovak parliament added.
