Responsibility – A Word Without Meaning?

I'll start talking about the state budget. Don't look for budgetary responsibility in it, the budget has always been more or less about politics, but now political responsibility has also disappeared.

Not only the government lost it, but so have both chambers of the parliament. Do not suspect the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance they don’t understand numbers, totals and arithmetic. Numbers are not important, what is more, they cannot lose face regardless of the price citizens will pay for the debts in the future. Contracting an angel or devil is part of this strategy, which they prefer doesn’t matter. Do not expect them to defend the interest of the citizens; it’s all about the parliamentary seats. The "opposition" also certainly knows that the candle cannot be burned at both ends; and, reducing the deficit along with tax breaks goes beyond logic. The reason remains that the "right-wing" party has manoeuvred into a situation where it is difficult to believe that it is not just about a possible victory in the election. The next governments will have to deal with a huge hole in the budget, which will naturally only deepen in the coming years.

Putting out fires is not enough

I was recently asked if it was possible to say unpleasant things in politics. I said yes, of course, but you can't win the election with it. Exceptions exist, as history shows, it is usually a revolution or a state of war. I think we are at war, but the enemy is not a different ideology, but a virus. It clearly doesn't care if the prime minister is a say ‘hi people’ guy, nor it cares about the tragedies on Charles Bridge, it cares little about the mask opposers defending their rights, it is not against and not even for. Now is undoubtedly an opportunity to stick to common sense and fight for it. Though, we shouldn't stand around too long. In a crisis, we should be tightening our belts, and not making debts, we should be saving not releasing empty soap bubbles from 'investing' and 'increasing consumption'. Finding a way out is necessary, it is not enough just to put out fires and support the truly affected, we must think about the future and believe in it. It is not even possible to run a company, let alone a state, by constant unpredictable jumping between micromanagement and management by experts. Unfortunately, we now have 'chairmen' whose only goal is to win the election. Others are polarizing the society, dividing it into "decent" people and ‘the others’, or are quietly sitting or even worse being incomprehensible. Above them rises the ‘castle father’, who simply wants to enjoy the rest of his tenure.

We don't need activists

Let's look for someone we trust who has a vision, courage, charisma and is authentic. Someone who speaks plainly and intelligibly follows common sense and creates certainty, not chaos. Encyclopaedias define responsibility as the ability to evoke and maintain trust.

A leader must have not only followers, but above all co-workers. Not only those who are loyal, salute and do not have or hide their opinion, but those who engage in an active dialogue with and thus help. Unfortunately, this model has got a bashing in our country. We don't need activists. We cannot be led by people who displace responsibility through activism or are not mature enough to engage in it. There are few major threats bigger than active ignorance or decision avoidance.

There are times when it is necessary to have the courage to take responsibility and accept it. Great power must be associated with great responsibility, especially personal responsibility. I am an optimist, I believe that most of us accept it not only in a crisis or when we are holding a ballot in our hands.

Every crisis ends at some point, let's act so that when the tide subsides, we do not come out of the water naked. Every end is a new beginning.
