Žižkov, respectively Prague 3, is experiencing in recent years growth of popularity. Markets at the Jiřího z Poděbrad square are popular among Praguers, and as well there is rising fame of cultural events held in Atrium or in the Jára Cimrman's theater.

According to Prague 3 deputy mayor for culture Alexander Bellu it is simple. “We are trying to make better life for people. We are supporting culture, and modern technologies. People see it, and thanks to it Prague 3 is very desirable location for living,” says Mr. Bellu.

Meeting in markets

Markets at the Jiřího z Poděbrad square have entered the second year, in which they are organized directly by the town hall. “Many people were afraid. They were telling us, that we will not succeed. However today everyone can go and see, that Markets are successful, that we managed to make them even better and our effort will continue in this year,” says Mr. Bellu.

The visitors can look forward to growing numbers of kiosks, music production and other supporting activities. “We want the Markets to be a place of gathering. Not a just a marketplace, where you can buy quality products, but a place, where the families can spend their time,” explains Mr. Bellu vision of Prague 3.

Concerts and Eight

He is stressing out that people can look forward again for popular cultural festivals there, such as Mercado or Taste of Italy. “We can also mention music concerts on regular basis in the beautiful baroque chapel in Atrium na Žižkově, Signal Festival, the larger part of which will take place in Prague 3, or the project Fateful Eights, which is commemorating plenty of significant historical anniversaries,” lists Mr. Bellu some of the cultural event for this year in Prague 3.

It is Bellu, who symbolizes the changes of Prague 3 toward the modern district. He will celebrate his 31st birthday this May. Despite his youth, he is one of the key Prague 3 politicians, leading local branch of Civic Democratic Party and representing Prague 3 at Prague city magistrate, where he recently pushed through accompanied by other representatives the return of metro D line back to Žižkov.

“I am doing my job. People have elected us in order to work for them, that’s what we are trying to do,” says modestly Mr. Bellu.
