With the occasion of the 100-year anniversary of the formal admission of women students at Oxford University New Professorship will be held in association with St John’s College. The position will bear the name of Hillary Clinton.

This title is the first, and so far the only one of its kind in the English-speaking world and underlines Oxford University's long-standing commitment to women, their rights and their place in history.

"Women had been in the background for too long and the world has suffered as a result. That is changing now, but much more slowly than many of us would like. The new Chair will accelerate this change and help women get where they belong, in the forefront of history and society, "said the university's Vice-Chancellor, political scientist Louise Richardson.

The new professor shall be Brenda E. Stevenson, currently a professor at UCLA in London - an internationally recognized historian of race, slavery, gender, and family conflict.
