Twenty years ago, Jana Doleželová became Miss Czech Republic. That same year, she also finished her pharmacy studies, and it is a profession she has stuck to. But aside from being a pharmacist, she is also a sought-after event host, and last but not least also a municipal politician.

You have been a member of the Říčany Municipal Assembly since 2018. What makes municipal so personal to you, and what led you to it in the first place?
My path into the Assembly was fairly straightforward. The then mayor of Říčany and famous host Vladimír Kořen asked me to work with him. Considering that the philosophy of the local Klidné město (Calm City) Movement, which I then ended up running for as an independent, was close to my heart, I gladly accepted the offer after a short period of consideration. Today it’s my second election period in the Assembly. I am not indifferent to how the city my daughter and her friends are growing up in develops, and that’s why I'm happy to take part in shaping it.

The work of an assemblywoman requires a certain amount of time, energy...
Indeed, one must perform this job out of the love for that city, because your main reward is satisfied neighbors and the general image of the city. One of the activities I always look forward to, the imaginary cherry on top, is officiating weddings, and the baby-welcoming ceremony. These events are always brimming with positive emotions, and help one gain the strength for further work.

Have you never considered politics on the national level?
I won’t pretend that I haven’t received the offer several times, but it is not a path that currently interests me.

What does interest you, however, is philanthropy. Do you collaborate with any organizations?
I was the patron of the Jasněnka children’s daycare center for many years, which is based in Uničov, my hometown. For several years, I was also the director of a foundation engaged in cancer vaccine research. These days I appear at numerous charity events. The closest one is on the 8th of June in Teplice, the “Krása pomáhá” (Beauty Helps) show as part of Czech Fashion Week. Philanthropy is a matter of course for me, and I teach my daughter to be the same – for example, she recently sang at a UNICEF concert.

The fact that you’re a sought-after event host is widely known. The fact that you’ve also dabbled in acting might be less so.
I've always considered acting something to spice up the modeling work a bit. Switching over to hosting was unplanned. The host couldn’t make it to this one fashion show, and they asked me to take over. I decided to oblige the organizers that day and help out. Ever since that day, the offers to host steadily grew, and these days it’s one of my main activities. I host press conferences, congresses, balls, book launches, teambuilding events, and many others.

Your work for the Dr. Max pharmacy chain includes, among other things, spreading awareness. Has there been success in highlighting the importance of regular checkups and screenings?
The amount of people interested in prevention and a healthy lifestyle is fortunately on the rise. However, many still underestimate this issue. I’m always very happy to see the public attending the screening events. I take part in various projects in this area, for example, I’ve been working with Tent Against Melanoma for three years now. Just last year, 3,665 people visited it in four days, and 103 malignant tumors were discovered. That number makes it clear that these activities really do mean something.

A healthy lifestyle is closely related to a healthy diet, which is in turn associated with numerous myths. Are you trying to counteract these?
I do try my best to bust these myths, but I often encounter resistance in people to changing deep-rooted unhealthy stereotypes. I perform body composition measurements with the InBody device at healthy lifestyle events across different regions of our country. When I measure people at the “Běhej lesy” (Run Through The Forests) event, their results tend to be good, and they have the desire to get even better. But I also do these measurements at healthy lifestyle events run by supermarkets, and the people there are often resigned. I still try to explain to them that even a small change to one’s diet is worth it. However, the change must be permanent, and ideally also supported by increased physical activity.

Saying the words “the most beautiful Czech pharmacist” doesn’t need to be followed by adding your name. Are you still enjoying this “title”?
It’s been twenty years this year since I have gained this title. It’s hard to say if it will remain a fact in another twenty years. At that point, that title would have followed me all the way into retirement [laughs]. Either way, I mostly consider it a lovely exaggeration. Beauty is relative, and I know a number of pretty pharmacists.

You often emphasize the importance of priorities...
Oh yes, life is a matter of priorities. There are only twenty-four hours in a day, and it’s up to each and every one of us to prioritize. I myself don’t always manage to do everything I would have wished to do. And so I must choose what to put first. Work was my priority until my daughter was born. These days, it’s mostly family. Especially in these past couple of months, when my brother and I were taking care of our sick mother, I solidified my family as a priority even further.

How do you manage to organize your time to také care of your daughter, your work, sports, and other activities? Do you even have the time to sleep?
After my daughter was born, my career had to take a bit of a backseat. I don’t accept as many offers to host, and instead of twice a week, I host twice a month, for example. I also try to combine certain activities, such as doing sports with my daughter, or music, taking her with me to certain work events, for example, the aforementioned “Běhej lesy” race. My daughter takes part in the children’s race and other accompanying activities there, which is great, and then she even comes and helps me out. When it comes to sleep, I need just six and a half hours to feel rested, but that’s different for everybody.
