In the town of Stará Bystrica, the 19th season of the Celebration of Slovak Sovereignty took place in mid-July. The program celebrating the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Slovak Republic culminated with the lighting of the Sovereignty Bonfire.
The event saw many prominent people attend. Among the guests were Chairman of the SMER-SD party Robert Fico, Vice-chair Robert Kaliňák, MPs for the party Marián Kéry, Ľuboš Blaha, Richard Takáč, and MP candidate Ján Mažgút. Also present were former Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič, former Police Chief and MP candidate Tibor Gašpar, and MEPs Katarína Roth Neveďalová and Milan Uhrík. The cultural entertainment was provided by folklore groups Metalinda and Arzén, and the program also included a football tennis tournament as well as plentiful activities for children.
